Instructions for Panasonic KX-P 1123 ------------------------------------ The option lights on the panel of the printer looks like this: FONT PROGRAM DRAFT COURIER PRESTIGE BOLD PS SCRIPT PITCH PROGRAM 10 12 15 17 PS FORM LEN 11" 12" 14" 8" 8.5" 11 2/3" ENHANCE BOLD ITALIC DBL HT DBL WID DBL STRK CENTER OTHERS LEFT MAR RIGHT MAR MACRO#1 MACRO#2 MACRO#3 FACTORY There are three LEDs on the left. When the first LED is on, it indicates that the first row is selected. When the first and second LEDs are on, the second row is selected. When the second LED is on by itself, the third row is selected, etc. When you press FUNCTION after the printer is on, you enter a mode where all the settings operate as marked. The form feed button selects a row, the line feed button moves the cursor to the right, and the online button sets or unsets the option. For some rows, only one thing can be selected at a time. For others (like ENHANCEMENT), items can be turned on and off individually. If the cursor is over an item and it's blinking, it's off; if it's solid, it's on. There is a pseudo-row after the last row and before the first row in which all lights are on; if you press the online button while on this row, it will print a page listing the current settings. The other interesting feature in the last row is the "macro" settings, which allow you to store a set of settings, and load them all together at a later time. To use this feature, move to the last row with FF, and move the cursor to the right with LF. When over one of the MACRO items, press online to turn on the selection (the cursor will stop blinking). Press FF to read the settings from that macro, or LF to write. Then press online again. The "FACTORY" setting is not writable. This isn't the hard part, because all the settings are labeled. --- If you hold down the FUNCTION button while turning on the printer, you're brought into a mode with different settings. These are: Emulation Mode Default Font Int'l char. set Download buffer Cut sheet feeder Buzzer sound Zero font Alt. Graphics Mode Data length Image direction Skip perforation Automatic LF Automatic CR P.O detector There are also additional rows. After the normal rows, there is a row with the first LED blinking, and a row with the first two LEDs blinking. I'll call these SPECIAL1 and SPECIAL2, because I have no idea what Panasonic called them. Below, I list what the rows set. A question mark means that I didn't bother checking what this setting was for, becuase I have to print a full sheet of paper each time I want to check a setting, and there were quite a number of them. If you're looking for a setting that isn't listed, set the printer to one of the question marks, and then print out the status page to see what you've got. The marks indicate that some of the six columns within a row are not used, and in fact cannot be selected. The FONT row sets the emulation mode. The options are: LQ-850 italic LQ-850 graphic Proprinter X24 G1 ? The PITCH row sets the default font - but with everything shifted left one column from what's listed, so the columns are: DRAFT COURIER PRESTIGE BOLD PS SCRIPT The FORM LENGTH, ENHANCEMENT, and OTHERS row all set the International Character Set; only one item from *one* of these rows can be selected at one time. The options are: FORM LEN: USA ? ? ? ? ? ENHANCE: Italy Spain 1 ? Japan Norway Denmark 2 OTHERS: L. America Legal The SPECIAL1 and SPECIAL2 rows set the toggle options. They are laid out as follows: SPECIAL1: Download Buffer Cut sheet feeder Buzzer sound Zero font Alt. Graphic Mode Data length SPECIAL2: Image direction Skip perforation Automatic LF Automatic CR P.O detector For most of the items, turning the option "on" means that the listed feature is turned on. For some, however, which state is "on" is not as obvious. For Data Length, off is "8" and on is "7". For image direction, off is "Bi-direction" and on is "Uni-direction". For Zero font, off draws a zero with a line through it and on draws a zero without a line through it.
